Terms of Service
Bridgedeck, operated by Office Care Systems (Pty) Ltd (trading as "Bridgedeck", "we", "us").

By creating an account or using any Bridgedeck app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. What Bridgedeck is
Bridgedeck is a brand of apps for professional seafarers, operated by Office Care Systems (Pty) Ltd. These Terms cover:
- Bridgedeck Study — a study aid that helps deck officers prepare for Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) oral and Part A examinations, via AI-led voice practice, written multiple-choice practice, flashcards, and progress tracking.
- Bridgedeck Logbook — a free app for recording your sea time (vessels, voyages, daily watches, and certificates) and tracking career totals, with an optional Bridgedeck Pro subscription.
Where a clause applies to only one app, it is marked (Study) or (Logbook).
2. Important disclaimers — please read
- Not affiliated with the MCA or RYA. Bridgedeck is independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA), the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), or any examining, certifying, or flag-state body. References to MCA syllabuses, M-Notices, and qualifications are for educational context only.
- (Study) AI-generated content. Your "examiner" is an artificial intelligence, and questions, follow-ups, and feedback are generated by AI. AI can make mistakes. Content is for practice only and should not be relied on as authoritative regulatory advice — always check the current official source (M-Notices, the COLREGs, the relevant MIN/MSN/MGN).
- (Study) No guarantee of exam success. Using Bridgedeck does not guarantee that you will pass any examination. Your results in the app are an estimate, not an official assessment, and the simulations carry no official standing.
- (Logbook) Personal record-keeping aid, not an official record. Bridgedeck Logbook helps you keep your own record of sea time. It is not an official discharge book, Record of Sea Service, or a substitute for any documentation required by the MCA, your flag state, your training provider, or your employer. You remain responsible for maintaining official records and for the accuracy of what you enter; any export or totals the app produces are derived from your own entries.
3. Eligibility and your account
- You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract.
- You are responsible for activity under your account and for keeping your sign-in secure.
- Provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- use Bridgedeck for any unlawful purpose, or to attempt to gain an unfair or fraudulent advantage in a real examination;
- copy, scrape, resell, or redistribute the question bank, model answers, or other content;
- reverse-engineer, disrupt, or attempt to circumvent usage limits or security of the service;
- share your account, or use the service on behalf of others without a licence to do so;
- submit abusive, unlawful, or infringing content.
5. Trials, subscriptions, billing, and cancellation
- (Logbook) Free tier. Bridgedeck Logbook is free to use up to the limit described in the app, after which continued use of paid features requires a Bridgedeck Pro subscription. Records you have already created remain yours and accessible.
- (Study) Free trial: one per user, as described in the app. Trials are limited and may not be combined or repeated.
- Subscriptions (Study, and Bridgedeck Pro for Logbook) renew automatically at the end of each billing period unless cancelled.
- Payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). Your purchase is also subject to their terms. We never receive your card details.
- Cancellation is done through your Apple or Google account settings and takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
- Refunds are handled under the policies of Apple or Google, and by applicable consumer law. We do not separately process card refunds.
6. Intellectual property
The Bridgedeck app, brand, question bank, model answers, and other content are owned by Office Care Systems (Pty) Ltd or its licensors and are protected by law. We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service for your own exam preparation. All rights not expressly granted are reserved.
Official regulatory texts referenced in the app remain the property of their respective owners and, where applicable, are used under the Open Government Licence.
7. Your content and feedback
You retain ownership of feedback and notes you submit. By submitting feedback, you grant us a licence to use it to operate and improve the service. We may act on feedback without obligation or compensation.
8. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data, including the principle that (Study) your voice audio is never stored and that (Logbook) we store no certificate scans or documents. By using Bridgedeck you acknowledge that policy.
9. Service availability
We aim to keep Bridgedeck available but do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue features at any time. Voice practice depends on third-party AI services and your network connection.
10. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Bridgedeck is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of content. This does not exclude any rights you have under mandatory consumer law.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for examination failure, loss of data, lost profits, or any indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
12. Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms or misuse the service. You may stop using Bridgedeck and delete your account at any time — (Study) Profile → Delete my account, or (Logbook) Settings → Privacy & data → Delete account.
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. Material changes will be notified in-app or by email. Continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have non-exclusive jurisdiction over disputes. This does not deprive you of any protection given by mandatory consumer law in your country of residence.
